South Eveleigh is for everyone.
Eveleigh Green is an open space for the community to use at any time. It’s an ideal spot for mothers groups during the day, parents catch-ups of an evening, or a weekend get together location for adults while kids get to use the skate and scooter park, or young ones get to play in the sandpit or test their skills on the adventure playground. The free BBQs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cultural Landscape Garden
Immerse yourself in the world of Australian native plants, integral to Indigenous Australians' toolmaking, food, and medicine at the Cultural Landscape Garden, a landscape designed in collaboration with local Aboriginal communities. Take in the tranquil atmosphere, enhanced by the calming scent of Eucalyptus, and make use of our BBQ area and seating for a leisurely break.
Eveleigh Green
Embrace the outdoors at Eveleigh Green, a leafy green oasis perfect for picnics, dog walks, kids' birthday parties, outdoor group sports, a relaxing stroll, or simply soak up the sun. With plenty of picnic tables and BBQs available, it's first-come, first-served fun. Plus, public toilets and a parent's room in the Community Building are here for your convenience.
Innovation Plaza
Located between the Locomotive Workshop and the National Innovation Centre - home to Cicada Innovations, the Plaza is the main pedestrian pathway to and from Redfern Station.
Innovation Plaza is a great spot to sit and enjoy the dappled sunlight among the plane trees in summer or sit at one of the smart outdoor work stations while being warmed by the winter sun. It is also fully equipped with seating, dining tables as well as ping pong tables.
Skate and Scooter Park
Here, you can perfect your kick flips, tricks, or enjoy a leisurely cruise around our expertly designed space. Crafted by skate park specialists Convic, the Skate and Scooter Park features custom brick transitions, industrial steel elements, granite ledges, and pavers—all paying homage to the historic Locomotive Workshop.
Recognised for its excellence, the park received the prestigious Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Award in the Urban Design Category in 2020. Lights out at 9pm, seven days a week.
Village Square
At the the heart of South Eveleigh, you'll find Village Square, anchored by the magnificent Interchange Pavilion, an architectural public art by Chris Fox. Village Square offers a flexible space with plenty of seating and picnic tables available, suitable for events, social gatherings, outdoor meetings, or simply for sitting and enjoying lunch. Plus, enjoy other amenities like a public ping pong table (BYO bats and balls) and convenient access to public toilets.
The Entry Garden
The iconic heritage water tower at the top of the elevated Entry Garden gives visitors a first insight into the rich history of South Eveleigh. The Entry Garden is a direct gateway to South Eveleigh from Redfern Station and is used by commuters, residents and cyclists alike.
This elevated garden also provides an abundance of space to relax, work and to enjoy a range of events. There is also a lift and accessible ramp at the Entry Garden, just a short walk from Redfern Station, on the corner of Cornwallis Street.
Community Building
The Community Building is home The Australian National Institute of Management and Commerce (IMC) and Honey Bird Child Care Centre. It’s also home to Australia’s first Indigenous Rooftop Garden, open to public from 12 - 2pm, Monday - Friday. There are public toilets accessible on the ground floor of the Community Building and they are open from 7am - 7pm every day.
Kids Playground
A favourite spot for local families, our expansive playground features a blend of traditional and adventure play elements, ensuring fun for children of all ages. From sandpit adventures to thrilling slides and exploration in The Eveleigh Tree House, there's something here to spark every child's imagination.
For added convenience, toilets and a parent's room are conveniently located in the nearby Community Building, ensuring a comfortable experience for families.
BBQ
BBQs are available for everyone to use for free on a first-come, first-served basis at Eveleigh Green and in the Cultural Landscape Garden. Grab your picnic or BBQ essentials from Romeo's Foodhall IGA located in the historic Locomotive Workshop.
Community Rooftop Garden
The South Eveleigh Community Building Rooftop Garden features an Indigenous planting theme showcasing a variety of native edible, cultural, and medicinal plant species. The garden brings life to South Eveleigh’s rich Aboriginal culture and heritage, through an engaging and educational experience. Workers, visitors and the local community are encouraged to participate in a range of activities throughout the precinct to learn about First Nations culture, native plants and Aboriginal land management practises.
Recreation
If fitness is your focus, there is also an outdoor gym, scooter park and a choice of three all-weather sports courts (futsal, tennis, basketball and mixed-use) to take advantage of. Open to the community, workers and residents, bookings can be made here.
