Community, Collaboration & Care
How do you measure success?
The Plate It Forward program, run by one of South Eveleigh’s community partners, Colombo Social, measures the social return on activity. A great example of Plate It Forward’s success was South Eveleigh’s recent International Women’s Day event which resulted in 90 meals donated to those going hungry in Redfern and 64 hours of education and employment to people overlooked from employment. Collaborating with Colombo Social for the event meant the food was prepared, in part, by trainees from Colombo Social’s Ability Social program. It allowed trainees to showcase their skills and knowledge and gave them real-life experience of event catering, further bolstering their resume.
Another facet of the South Eveleigh/Colombo Social collaboration is that Colombo Social uses the commercial kitchen located in CBA’s Axle Building. Over the past year the team at CBA has helped prepare and package thousands of meals destined to be delivered right around the corner to Redfern and Waterloo community members doing it tough. It is this kind of teamwork that is at the heart of South Eveleigh’s community collaboration program. It brings together all the unique communities linked to the precinct.
